Analysis Harold and Kumar

This is the thing that truly sets â€Å"Harold and Kumar† separated not simply from â€Å"Stoner films† or the whole Comedy kind, yet from each film at any point made. Throwing two â€Å"minorities† in the main jobs. The initial scene includes two â€Å"higher ups†, who we accept that are Harold’s managers, at a bookkeeping firm who are attempting to escape accomplishing their labor for a night out. They give the work to our clueless Harold, who hesitantly acknowledges the new assignment load since his activity was undermined. This initial scene sets up Harold’s individual issues that toward the finish of the ovie, he over comes. This scene cuts between numerous shots of Harold’s managers remaining over Harold, and Harold gazing toward them. They loom over Harold, looking down on him as a workhorse that they can pass their remaining burdens to. Harold sits in his seat gazing toward his two managers, baffled and to some degree terrified to go to bat for himself. His two managers are wearing dark suits which imparts to the crowd that they are predominant as well as definitive and for absence of a superior term, underhanded. They are the principal heroes we find in the film. As they impact out of the workplace parking area in their convertible, they legitimize their activities by saying that â€Å"those Asian folks love crunching numbers†. We rapidly get the reaction to this with a cut of Harold remaining in the workplace peering out the window the speeding convertible, furiously saying â€Å"Fuck†. From this we slice to a scene of Kumar being met for acknowledgment into a clinical school program at an undisclosed esteemed college. Kumar outrightly doesn’t care about the meeting, or as we find later, turning into a specialist like his dad needs him to be. Kumar sits in the meeting wearing a rumpled suit and slumps in his seat. From these two scenes we are brought into the commonplace jobs that regularly find in Hollywood motion pictures. The tranquil Asian being pushed around and the Indian person attempting to turn into a specialist. Each time however we see the issues that the characters have with both of these circumstances, this is the side that we don’t regularly find in films. Harold abhors his activity since he senses that he isn’t regarded, it is likewise learned later in the film that he fundamentally fell into his activity on the grounds that that’s exactly how it went. Until the finish of the film when Harold starts to assume responsibility and go to bat for himself, the crowd has no issue accepting that Harold just went with the movements and turned into a bookkeeper. Kumar then again is fundamentally Harold’s total inverse, yin and yang type circumstance, and opposes falling into his â€Å"natural† job in the public eye of turning into a specialist despite the fact that he is clearly gifted in the field, by living off his dads cash (who is a specialist) and going through the greater part of his days smoking pot. All through the film there are scenes where a character is given an issue that somehow or another identifies with a generalization about their ethnicity. The film manages this in a kidding way, however best of all, the character experiences it in a positive way. Take for example the character of Kumar, in the wake of visiting his dad working in the clinic he takes an entrance card to take clinical cannabis, during the time spent finding the weed, the couple discover cleans to mask themselves in and in a misunderstanding are confounded as specialists who are to work on a firearm fired casualty. Kumar’s â€Å"natural† capacity in wellbeing and medication permits him to effectively work on the person in question and spare his life. This winds up being the defining moment in the film for Kumar where he chooses to quit opposing his dad and the run of the mill job society expects of Indians, and become a specialist. For Harold, his defining moment happens toward the finish of the film when he goes to bat for himself at his goal, white château. His two supervisors appear at the White Castles from their night out with a couple of ladies, their clothing has changed somewhat, one has shed his dark coat and the other is totally rumpled in his suit. Harold stands now, up close and personal with both of his supervisors with an obviously irate face. He faces his supervisors and tells them that he won’t take their tormenting any more. The two men look terrified and are puzzled since they were trapped in a falsehood and that Harold has actually confronted them, a differentiation from the primary scene of the film. Part of the way through the film there is where Neil Patrick Harris has taken the vehicle and leave Harold and Kumar abandoned. The two are endeavoring to stroll over the road at a totally empty crossing point. Kumar inclinations Harold to simply stroll across and ignore the road sign in light of the fact that there is nobody around. As Harold ventures out cross, he is halted by a cop. The official bugs both of them and in an indication of explicit bigotry, he ridicules Kumar and Harold’s ethnicities by inquiring as to whether they have unusual names. He inquires as to whether his name has â€Å"like five O’s or two U’s†. At this scene Kumar supports himself by putting down the official and revealing to him he was washout in secondary school is as yet one at this point. In spite of the fact that the official has an a lot bulkier body type than Harold and Kumar, Kumar still stands vis-à-vis with the official, speaking to his mental fortitude to conflict with somebody he knows could bring him to prison. I have seen â€Å"Harold and Kumar go to White Castle† MANY occasions before this paper and typically just watched it as it was introduced, I giggled at the interesting parts and would immediately proceed onward to something different. Until this paper I had never thought to consider the portrayals the film depicted of Harold and Kumar. I had never at any point seen that the two driving jobs were â€Å"minority† ethnicities. The manner in which the film recognizes the generalizations that come packaged with the two characters and devastates them while making a totally joke of them is very captivating. One of the all the more fascinating realities is that the movie was composed by two Jewish men, and coordinated by a Caucasian man. They clearly didn’t need to make a satire like some other with a white lead, they threw two totally different men together and made an extraordinarily effective film. The film has produced two spin-offs and each did very well in the movies. I would by and by affection to see a film cast more â€Å"minority† ethnicities in the number one spot jobs, comedies as well as each film classification. I believe that day isn't excessively far ahead. Rangwala, Shama. Issue 5: Film Reviews.  Scope. Http://www. scope. nottingham. air conditioning. uk/. Birth Control Around the World - Free Essay Example

For over some decades now, birth control has been put into the world. Many people still wonder today if its safe, are the effects on your body worth it and does it really prevent pregnancy. The womens right revolution played a big part in developing safe methods over the years for women who choose to use birth control today. During a time where pregnancy avoidance and contraception wasnt really common, its interesting to think about how accessible it is in todays time. When birth control was first approved in the 1960s, The Supreme Court only gave married couples the right to use birth control. Evidently, it was protected in the constitution as a right to privacy. Not only until 1972, did the Supreme Court legalized birth control for all citizens of this country. As time goes by, an accelerated expansion in availability, different methods and improvements on birth control became available. Woman must have her freedom, the fundamental freedom of choosing whether or not she will be a mother and how many children she will have. Regardless of what mans attitude may be, that problem is hers † and before it can be his, it is hers alone. She goes through the vale of death alone, each time a babe is born. As it is the right neither of man nor the state to coerce her into this ordeal, so it is her right to decide whether she will endure it. From ages reproductive ages of 15 to 44, there are 61 million women in the U.S. About 70% of those women are at risk of having unintended pregnancy, that is sexually active and do not actually want to conceive. 72% women use non-permanent methods such as the pill, patch, implant, injectable, vagina ring and etc. The pill and female sterilization have been the two most commonly used methods since 1982. In 2001, the hormonal patch was introduced. The birth control patch is a beige patch that sticks to your skin and helps prevent future pregnancies. The patch is applied to your skin once a week for three weeks straight. The patches normally cost $0-$80 per box. The price to get this kind of birth control really depends on the location and medical insurance coverage you may have. The patch prevents pregnancy by releasing hormones. These hormones are chemicals that control different parts of the body by helping women today to prevent future pregnancy. The patch can be applied on the skin of your outer arm, stomach, back or butt. The patch is known to be easy and safe to use. Its very low maintenance and pain free. Its also very convenient since you can apply it to yourself and dont really need to schedule a doctors appointment. The patch helps with acne, headaches, menstrual cramps, ectopic pregnancy and more. Birth control which has been criticized as negative and destructive, is real ly the greatest and most truly eugenic method, and its adoption as part of the program of Eugenics would immediately give a concrete and realistic power to that science as the most constructive and necessary of the means to racial health. Even though a lot of birth control has great benefits they also have lots of side effects. Some of the main side effects of the birth control patch is vomiting and nausea, tender breasts, bleeding between periods, sore legs, trouble breathing, bad headaches, yellowing of the eyes and even serious chest pain. The patch is 99% effective against pregnancy. In 2006 the Nexplanon was invented. Nexplanon is another form of birth control but totally different from the patch. The Nexplanon is a radiopaque rod that is inserted into skin of your upper arm. The small plastic rod that is inserted contains hormone etonogestrel that is released over time over the course of up to three years. Nexplanon creates an environment in which it is harder for sperm to reach the uterus and for a fertilized egg to be implanting into the uterine wall. Even though Nexplanon are plastic, they contain a small amount of barium sulfate which enables them to even be seen by x-ray. Just like any other birth control, they help with many problems but also have those big side effects that a lot of women would rather not go through. Taking Nexplanon can increase your risk of developing blood clots, having a stroke or heart attack also. As a young adult I have experienced the effects and benefits of birth control. I decided to try the Nexplanon as my first option. When it was first inserted into my body, I didnt have any sign effects right in the beginning but as a year started to go on, I did see side effects that was common with the implant. Side effects are very serious and can very much hurt your body more than help it sometimes. A lot of women these days dont know how bad birth control is for the body, but most women take the birth control because they may not want kids at that moment in their life. You know that many women true personalities change from the effects of birth control. Some women remember themselves as happy, energized, loving. The effects taken onto the female human body now makes them emotional, crazy, exhausted, and even angry. Even when birth control doesnt have any effect on the body while taking it, it can definitely hurt the body later. Lots of women who may have been on birth control for a while can experience the long-term effects that birth control can take on your body. The long term affect definitely depends on the age, the medical history and which type of birth control that they may choose to use. Did you know that birth control plays a big roll into infertility and why women today cant have kids? Infertility is when you have trouble getting pregnant or staying pregnant. Fertility problems can actually happen in both men and women. Most people get diagnosed with infertility after not getting pregnant after a year or more of trying or if you have multiple miscarriages. Many people become excited to tell their family and friends that they are now about to bring another human into this world, to only tell them later that theyve lost their baby. Many parents even wonder why. Wonder what they make have done to cause the life of their baby and etc. When it comes to birth control today in 2018, it is now 50/50. Birth control is good and bad. It helps prevent pregnancy, but it also causes long term harm on your body. Its a win and a lost. The choice is yours at the end of the day whether your willing to take the risk. Sometimes women have no effects, still have good healthy children and even healthy themselves. Exercising eating right, taking care of yourself can also really help with staying healthy and fit along the birth control and pregnancy stage in women lives today. Its long past time we started focusing on the solutions that actually keep women healthy, instead of using basic aspects of womens health as a tool of. Being a healthy woman isnt about getting on a scale or measuring your waistline. We need to start focusing on what matters-on how we feel, and how we feel about ourselves.

By connecting musicians with huge fun base, revealing their hidden talents, and allowing third party distributor, Youtube has revolutionized how musicians enter the music industry. In 2005, three former Paypal employees —Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim— noticed a small problem: even though there was a revolutionary increase on the number of people who captured video, there wasnt a good way to share those videos. We will write a custom essay sample on YouTube Has Revolutionized The or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Eventually, they activated a website called Youtube to create a place where allows users to upload, share and view videos (History of Youtube). After more than a decade, there would be no one who does not know the name in the world; Youtube has became the worlds most popular online video site, with users watching 4 billion hours worth of video each month, and uploading 72 hours worth of video every minute (History of Youtube). To understand the revolution on music industry caused by Youtube, one looks closely at the the time before YouTube was never existed. Surprisingly, online videos existed long before YouTube was born in 2005. However, each single video was not connected to other related video clips, like other videos of a musician that the user had just watched. Also, there was very little in the way of content reviews or ratings, meaning that there was barely no connection between creators and users. The new generation of video sharing sites, YouTube overcome these problems; it allowed suppliers to upload video from many different formats and to tag uploaded videos with keywords. Users can not only share their videos by mailing links to them or upload them on web pages or in blogs but also can rate and comment on videos, making new communication place between suppliers and viewers (Cameron 2). After releasing the apps, the YouTube grew markedly: made a deal with NBC in June 2006 and helped the traditional media companies; acquired by Google, the biggest multinational technology company on Internet, for $1.65 billion in October 200 6; broadcasted the presidential debate for the 2008; introduced the world to Justin Bieber via a video (The History of YouTube). Throughout a more than decade, Youtube is now hosting more than 65000 new video uploads, delivering over 100 million video views per day, and even marketing the online market by including advertisements and commercial; Youtube has become more than just an video sharing site but one of most influential one in the world (Christopher 1). Firstly, Youtube allows suppliers, musicians and other video creators, to meet huge fan bases through the rating and commenting system. As explained in the background, it was an significant change that musicians and users can communicate through Youtube. Currently, there are millions of videos uploaded on YouTube to attract any peoples interests, and everyone has a chance to get a fortune; founded as a musician. Even though there are only small chances to be famous (in fact, 30% of the videos uploaded on YouTube has less than one hundred views,) there are many people who has won the chance by increasing the number of views and supporters throughout the use of YouTube, providing free entrance to be a musician. As an example, take a look at a famous pop-star musician, Justin Bieber, the one who has became popular by using YouTube. When he was 13 years old, he started posting videos in Youtube singing in the bathroom and playing guitar in the living room. Soon, users began to realize his ability as a musician and started to support and started to support him by commenting compliments and rating good. Said Justin Bieber himself in fifteen years old, [his videos] had a hundred views, then a thousand views, then ten thousand views, so I just kept posting more video and more videos.(Bieber) As a result of his efforts and his huge fan base, his Youtube videos, which had got millions of views, led him to his discovery by a talent agent, following which at the age of 15 he moved to Atlanta, signed a record contract, and began working toward his breakout commercial success in 2009, that he ever wanted since he was child (Bickford 1). Clearly, he is a perfect example who had entered in the music industry by using the communication system with users. According to A Systems View of Creativity in a YouTube World, Danah Henriksen suggests that YouTube is not the only place where creative producers can share their work and be recognized with or without the traditional gatekeepers of their fields, but also get fresh responses to the video from the users (Henriksen 3). Like pop-star Justin Bieber, many musician has got discovered because users can support their favorite musician by rating and commenting through YouTube.Revealing producers hidden talents on YouTube the way for talented agents to find out talented musicians, scout them for entering into the music industry, and promote their talents. In the last half of the twenties century, The music industry has developed the business of talented agents who negotiate deals for their future music-stars and manage their promotions and campaigns by booking those. Spending most of their time to look for hidden musicians, music talented agents typically hop around club, music stadio, or bar. However, YouTube has changed the way dramatically; Music talented agents can look for talented musicians by searching the sites carefully where people openly show efforts and entertainments in front of cameras, sharing their ability with others in the world. In 2005, A famous record producer Scooter Braun was searching Youtube for next singer, and he accidentally clicked on a video of 12 year old Justin Bieber singing Chris Browns With You, which instantly inspired Brauns mind. Right after the discovery, he tracked Biebers house and contacted with his parent by offering a negotiation, and he eventually got Bieber to enter the music industry, w ho later has earned countless awards and millions of supporters. Not on only that talented agents can possibly find future musicians, but YouTube also show them the number of supporters and popularity that how many people has had attentions to the musicians. When offering a negotiation with musicians, talented Agents sometimes take a risk that the musicians might not get popular so that they cannot make money they used for their campaigns and promotions. Even if musicians have a talent, that does not always mean they would get supporters and become famous. Struggling to get enough attensions to be famous is the one of the hardest thing talented agents concerns. But, like Justin Bieber who already had had thousands of his fans connected on Youtube, Talented Agent Braun was certain of his successes in the music industry.

Tycho Brahe Essays - Copernican Revolution, Tycho Brahe, Philippists

Tycho Brahe Tycho Brahe Tyge (Latinized as Tycho) Brahe was born on 14 December 1546 in Skane, then in Denmark, now in Sweden. He was the eldest son of Otto Brahe and Beatte Bille, both from families in the high nobility of Denmark. He was brought up by his paternal uncle J?rgen Brahe and became his heir. He attended the universities of Copenhagen and Leipzig, and then traveled through the German region, studying further at the universities of Wittenberg, Rostock, and Basel. During this period his interest in alchemy and astronomy was aroused, and he bought several astronomical instruments. In 1572 Tycho observed the new star in Cassiopeia and published a brief tract about it the following year. In 1574 he gave a course of lectures on astronomy at the University of Copenhagen. He was now convinced that the improvement of astronomy hinged on accurate observations. After another tour of Germany, where he visited astronomers, Tycho accepted an offer from the King Frederick II to fund an observatory. He was given the little island of Hven in the Sont near Copenhagen, and there he built his observatory, Uraniburg, which became the finest observatory in Europe. Tycho designed and built new instruments, calibrated them, and instituted nightly observations. He also ran his own printing press. The observatory was visited by many scholars, and Tycho trained a generation of young astronomers there in the art of observing. After a falling out with King Christian IV, Tycho packed up his instruments and books in 1597 and left Denmark. After traveling several years, he settled in Prague in 1599 as the Imperial Mathematician at the court of Emperor Rudolph II. He died there in 1601. His instruments were stored and eventually lost. Tycho Brahe's contributions to astronomy were enormous. He not only designed and built instruments, he also calibrated them and checked their accuracy periodically. He thus revolutionized astronomical instrumentation. He also changed observational practice profoundly. Whereas earlier astronomers had been content to observe the positions of planets and the Moon at certain important points of their orbits. Tycho and his cast of assistants observed these bodies throughout their orbits. As a result, a number of orbital anomalies never before noticed were made explicit by Tycho. Without these complete series of observations of unprecedented accuracy, Kepler could not have discovered that planets move in elliptical orbits. Tycho was also the first astronomer to make corrections for atmospheric refraction*. In general, whereas previous astronomers made observations accurate to perhaps 15 arc minutes, those of Tycho were accurate to perhaps 2 arc minutes, and it has been shown that his best observations were accurate to about half an arc minute. Tycho's observations of the new star of 1572 and comet of 1577, and his publications on these phenomena, were instrumental in establishing the fact that these bodies were above the Moon and that therefore the heavens were not immutable as Aristotle had argued and philosophers still believed. The heavens were changeable and therefore the Aristotelian division between the heavenly and earthly regions came under attack (see, for instance, Galileo's Dialogue) and was eventually dropped. Further, if comets were in the heavens, they moved through the heavens. Up to now it had been believed that planets were carried on material spheres (spherical shells) that fit tightly around each other. Tycho's observations showed that this arrangement was impossible because comets moved through these spheres. Celestial spheres faded out of existence between 1575 and 1625. Tycho developed a system that combined the best of both worlds. He kept the Earth in the center of the universe, so that he could retain Aristotelian physics The Moon and Sun revolved about the Earth, and the shell of the fixed stars was centered on the Earth. But Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn revolved about the Sun. He put the (circular) path of the comet of 1577 between Venus and Mars. This Tychonic world system became popular early in the seventeenth century among those who felt forced to reject the Ptolemaic arrangement of the planets (in which the Earth was the center of all motions) but who, for various reasons, could not accept the Copernican alternative. Tycho's major works include De Nova et Nullius Aevi Memoria Prius Visa Stella (On the New and Never

5 Marketing Techniques That Will Increase Your Traffic

5 Marketing Techniques That Will Increase Your Traffic We’re all familiar with the product upsell. You’re paying for your coffee and the clerk asks if you’d like a bagel to go with it. Or, you’re trying to check out online and the website keeps offering you new deals to consider. These are upselling and cross selling techniques. When done right, they work. When done poorly, they annoy the heck out of people who just want to give you their money so they can go on their merry way. You don’t want to annoy people who are trying to give you money. What if you applied some of these same marketing techniques to your content? Could you get more traffic, more readership, more leads? And, more importantly, could you help your readers more than you are now? 5 Offbeat Marketing Techniques That Will Increase Your Traffic The Difference Between The Two Upselling is not the same as cross selling. What is  cross  selling? Cross selling has to do with related products. It’s selling a customer something that they might be interested in based on what they’re already buying. Amazon does a great job with cross selling, letting you know what products customers typically purchase with the item you’re looking at. Getting a new external hard drive? You might be interested in this USB cord. Buying a new TV? You might be interested in a sound bar. What is upselling? Upselling is when you aren’t so much interested in selling a customer a product related to the one they intend to buy, but instead want to sell them a higher-end version of it. Purchasing Samsonite luggage? Why not consider Louis Vuitton. The motivation and method behind these sales approaches are quite different. How do you use  them? When you cross sell, you hone in on what the customer needs, and offer additional products or services because you think they could be a help. Upselling is less about what the customer needs and more about painting a rosy picture of how the more expensive item has more value for them. Cross selling is helpful. Upselling relies more on the narrative. Both meet a kind of need, the former being a real need and the latter being a felt need. Neither will work if all you do is list features during the sale. It’s additional value (cross selling) vs. higher value (upselling). It’s lateral (cross selling) vs. vertical (upselling). How To Apply Upselling And Cross Selling Techniques To Your #ContentMarketingPutting It To Work In Your Content Let’s say that your readers are your customers (because they are). Getting new customers costs much more than keeping the ones you already have, even though most of us get caught up in focusing on getting new ones. According to the book Marketing Metrics (hat tip: GrooveHQ), selling to a new customer carries a probability of 5–20%. Selling to an existing customer sits at 60–70%. Upselling and cross selling take an existing customer and extract more value from them. These techniques  also make for a happier customer, particularly if you’re really hitting their needs and providing help. 5 #MarketingTechniques make for a happier customer, especially if you are hitting their needs.#1. Be A Good Listener These two marketing techniques rely heavily on listening to your customer. You’ve heard the recommendation to pay attention to what’s being said to customer support to get ideas on content to create. You should also use what you’re learning there to spot where upselling and cross selling might work. The key here is not to listen so that you can sell, but to listen to see if you have a solution to offer. When an upsell or cross sell is done correctly, you make a profit, yes, but more importantly, you create a deeper relationship with the customer. #2. Be Specific With Your Offer A good in-post call to action (CTA) is one that makes sense and taps into the likely needs of the reader. Offering a free laundry detergent sample pack in the middle of a post about marketing makes no sense. On this blog, we like to offer related ebooks and worksheets that go along with the content for those readers who want something to print out and use offline. Upselling and cross selling must make sense for the specific customer and situation. It cannot be a blanket approach. For example, when you are buying a candy bar at a Big Box store and the clerk at the register sees a prompt on his computer and asks, in monotone, if you’d like to apply for a store credit card and save 10%. 10%. On a candy bar. Or when you are trying to check out of an online store and you have to go through page after page of â€Å"add this! do you want this?! get this!† and none of the offers have anything to do with what you want to buy. Upselling and cross selling work best on an individual level, or an audience-specific level. Unrelated and nonsensical attempts at upselling and cross selling numb your customer to ever buying. #3. Sell Benefits, Not Features People buy things to solve problems. That’s it. Granted, they might buy things that â€Å"solve† a problem in a roundabout or seemingly unrelated way (e.g. buying expensive clothes because of a self esteem issue, or shopping because of boredom), but the gist of it is that we spend money because there is a problem that needs solving. Features might solve problems, but they need to be translated into benefits in order for customers to see what problems they solve. Neil Patel uses GoDaddy as an example (and boy, does that company like to do the upsell) of mistaking features as the selling point. From the QuickSprout blog. â€Å"How To Upsell Your Customers† Patel points out that GoDaddy tends to sell based on features without really explaining why these features are a benefit. The customer isn’t clearly told why these might be useful. Take a look at your CTAs at the end of your blog posts and email. Are you selling the benefits or the features? Do you tell your readers why they should do something, or just telling them to do it? #4. Use Social Proof Social proof can be helpful for upselling and cross selling. Think of how Amazon lists what other shoppers who looked at a product also bought. Or the small â€Å"#1 Seller† flag on products that are sometimes more expensive. Knowing that other people went for the upsell and the cross sell convinces people it’s probably safe to do so, too. And nothing upsells like seeing a more expensive product getting five stars when the cheaper version you were looking at has only three. Consider testimonials and star rating systems for your content, products, and services. They do some of the upselling for you, if you simply make them visible at a crucial moment and location. #5. Create Content Bundles Apps such as Uberflip and Storify (or even our very own #CoChat summary blog posts) indicate that readers like to see content bundled into one place. That’s great news if you’re looking to upsell and cross sell. Creating a bundle of products makes the upselling and cross selling much easier, because your customer can easily see that they are getting added value. Bundles are particularly good for cross selling. Why not pull together several products that are related and show the customer that they can get the bundle for less than they’d get all three separately? Copyblogger talks about pulling together content bundles out of your digital content, suggesting several possible approaches: Find similar content product types. For example, put together a collection of your best ebooks, or your most helpful worksheets. Bundle them into one download. Find similar content topic types. Offer an ebook/webinar/download on the same topic. Make an â€Å"Everything You Need To Get Started Blogging† bundle. Connect with other content creators. Bundle your content, products, or services with someone else’s content, products, or services. It’s good buzz for both of you, and a good way to find an audience with who you choose to partner with. Add services to your bundles. Consider adding a service, such as consulting or an audit, along with your content bundle. â€Å"Get our ebook on landing page copy, and a free copy audit of one landing page.† Bundling your content is part of repurposing it. You give a second life to the individual pieces of content you already created.

Case study dealing with depression

Case study dealing with depression Depression is one of the most common and widespread psychiatric disorders in the UK. Of over 5000 British residents, approximately 5.9% of males and 4.2% of females suffer from depressive illnesses (Based on DSM-IV criteria) (Ohayon, 1999). Consequently there has been much emphasis on implementing techniques and psychotherapy to solve these issues and find effective treatments for depression. This essay will explore, psychodynamic and CBT therapy, in treating depression. There are clear disparities between these two forms of therapy in regards to their theoretical underpinnings as well as the arguments both for and against their effectiveness in treating depression. Throughout this review particular attention will be paid to the similar features which run through both approaches in order to gather a much more conclusive view regarding psychotherapy in the treatment of depression. The essay will begin by briefly outlining depression and discussing the development of psychotherapy in treating it. After this, psychodynamic therapy which is one of the most traditional psychotherapeutic methods of dealing with depression will be explored, in order to gather an understanding of its views on solving the problem of depression. Before moving on to compare this too, the much more modern and focused intervention CBT, developed by Beck (1979). After each approach has been outlined the essay will go on to critically evaluate each approach, firstly in terms of its empirical grounding in research before moving on to gather an understanding of the arguments regarding their theoretical grounding. Before finally going on to conclude as to what is the best option for dealing with such a common and problematic condition. Depression is a condition which is characterized by negative moods and unpleasant states of mind which can undermine our ability to function normally (Gilbert, 2007). In some cases people are born with a predisposition to depression through neurological disorders . However, for many others, depression is likely to occur as a consequence of changing life circumstances. (Hollon, Thase, & Markowitz, 2002) For many years clients were effectively treated with medicines such as anti-depressants. However, the stigma and the side effects that are associated with this medication, mean that many patients diagnosed with depression are reluctant to use them. A survey carried out by Priest, Vize, Roberts, Roberts and Tylee (1996) used questionnaires and interviews to discover the lay person’s beliefs and attitudes to pharmaceuticals as treatment of depression. The study found that 78% of the 2003 participants from across the UK, regarded antidepressants as negative and addictive. This demonstrates that the general public are still very sceptical about using medication as a quick fix to their depression. (Priest et al, 1996) Psychotherapists believe it is addressing the central psychological underpinnings of depression which is essential to long te rm recovery. (Gilbert, 2007) One of the first alternative forms of treatment was psychodynamic therapy. Psychodynamic therapy is based on the belief that that the majority of mental functioning occurs in our unconscious. Jacobs (2004) explains that, according to Freud the structure of the psyche is constructed from birth, and therefore the child’s relationship with significant others in the early years of their life, notably their mother and father, are vital to the individual’s future developments.

How do ex-prisoners social exclusion impact upon access to Learning Essay

How do ex-prisoners social exclusion impact upon access to Learning - Essay Example An ex-prisoner can explain this best based on the experience the person had when behind the bars. Being denied so many privileges could also mean being denied to access learning. When such happens outside the prison circles, the ex-prisoner may take time to connect to the world hence denying the person chances to learn. Learning for an ex-prisoner is important for reconnection to the free world. Though such involvement has positive consequences for the person and the community, it might be faced by challenges (Portes 1998). One of the major challenges that face this venture is the society unwillingness to protect the ex-prisoner. This sense of social exclusion affects the person’s learning ability even after they are out of prison. According to Blewett (2005), too much power forms a chain of contradiction that isolates the subject hence leading to a form of instability. The instability caused by the power exercised in prison also affects them mentally and socially (Gaventa 2003). Most of the ex-prisoners find themselves in a state of exclusion where nobody wants to be associated with them. An ex-prisoner may have a desire to learn but the desire may die out of mental instability and the state of exclusion experienced outside prison. Social exclusion has an effect in creating accumulative experience of class oppression. This saturates around the entire social body in that both the ex-prisoner and the people around him feel the exclusion (Lucas 2004). Any efforts to access skills when such saturation has taken place are rendered futile since concentration is not guaranteed. The person’s feeling of oppression may act negatively towards concentration and willingness to participate in the learning process. Both the team and the ex-prisoner may not be at ease with one another for fear of the unknown. However, the above discussion does not dismiss the fact that access to learning for ex-prisoners may be attainable at certain instances. When

Motivation in Educational Institutes Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Motivation in Educational Institutes - Essay Example And he who is versed in the science of numbers can tell of the regions of weight and measure, but he cannot conduct you thither. For the vision of one man lends not its wings to another man. And even as each one of you stands alone in God's knowledge, so must each one of you be alone in his knowledge of God and in his understanding of the earth. The profesion of teaching has had far more impact on development of a society than most people realise. After parents, the teacher is the most important person in the toddler's life. This interaction forms the foundation for the future life of the child, as to how he or she will contribute to the betterment of the society when he grows up to be an adult. With such an important role to play in lives of the future citizens of a nation, neither parents nor a country can afford to take chances. If a teacher is motivated, he or she can turn around the very lives of the children who come into their contact. This author has personal experiences with some such teachers, who actually turned life upside down in a short period of few years spent with them in a school. However, in today's context, thin budgets, materialistic lifestyles and big fat payscales available for other jobs have made teaching a last resort for most professions. In these circumstances, the teacher cannot be expected to stay motivated enough towards his students, and a good teacher is always an exception than rule. Under these circumstances, the administration has no choice but to evolve ways and means to increase motivation levels of teachers so that they can perform their jobs upto required levels of competencies without compromising the future of the the very students they are entrusted with. AIM This paper aims at bringing out some novel ways of improving motivation levels of teachers in modern educational institutions. BACKGROUND THEORIES Those who educate children well are more to be honored than parents, for these only gave life, those the art of living well. - Aristotle During past few decades, most governments and local schools have enacted some plans to recruit, reward, and retain the best teachers. Merit pay and career ladders were intended to provide financial incentives, varied work, and advancement opportunities for seasoned teachers. These, along with across-the-board pay raises, work environment premiums for difficult assignments, and grants or sabbaticals for research and study, were expected to improve teacher performance and motivation. Things did not move as expected and motivation levels of teachers continue to concern authorities even now. Additional aspects given due consideration were the historical contexts, factors affecting them internally and externally, and how new opportunities are devised for better motivation of teachers. - www.osba.org/lrelatns/teacherq/motivate.htm According to Johnson (1986), motivation aspects of teachers can be improved by three theories: Expectancy theory. Individuals are more likely to strive in their work if there is an anticipated reward that they value, such as a bonus or a promotion, than if there is none. It is true that monetary compensation is still the most important motivator in the present times. Teachers also belong to the same society as any other professional; have same dreams about lifestyles and the life they want to

Shakespeares Othello - Desdemona, the Heroine in Othello Essay

Desdemona, the Heroine in Othello  Ã‚        Ã‚  Ã‚   In William Shakespeare’s Othello Michael Cassio’s praises of the richly blessed Desdemona, as he awaits her arrival on Cyprus, are well deserved. This essay will amply support this statement.    Blanche Coles in Shakespeare’s Four Giants interprets the protagonist’s very meaningful four-word greeting to Desdemona which he utters upon disembarking in Cyprus:    Othello’s four words, â€Å"O, my soul’s joy,† tell us that this beautiful Venetian girl has brought great joy, felicity, bliss to the very depths of his soul. This exquisitely beautiful love that has come to a thoughtful, earnest man is indescribably impressive. For him it is   heaven on earth. And all the while, almost within arm’s length, stands Iago, the embodiment of evil, like the serpent in the Garden of Eden. (87)    In Act 1 Scene1, Iago persuades the rejected suitor of Desdemona, Roderigo, to accompany him to the home of Brabantio, Desdemona’s father, in the middle of the night. Once there the two awaken him with loud shouts about his daughter’s elopement with Othello. In response to Iago’s vulgar descriptions of Desdemona’s involvement with the general, Brabantio arises from bed and, with Roderigo’s help, gathers a search party to go and find Desdemona and bring her home. The father’s attitude is that life without his Desdemona will be much worse than before:    It is too true an evil: gone she is;   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   And what's to come of my despised time   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Is nought but bitterness. (1.1)    So obviously the senator has great respect for his daughter, or at least for the comforts which she has afforded him up the beginning of the play. This respect is shared by her new husband Othello, who ... ...   You told a lie, an odious, damned lie;   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Upon my soul, a lie, a wicked lie.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   She false with Cassio! (5.2)    Then she accuses him of causing murder: â€Å"And your reports have set the murder on.† Emilia’s stunning interrogation and conviction of her own husband as the evil mastermind behind the murder results in Iago’s murder of her. Gullible Othello, grief-stricken by remorse for the tragic mistake he has made, stabs himself and dies on the bed next to his wife, his sorrow being as deep as his love for Desdemona prior to Iago’s machinations.    WORKS CITED    Shakespeare, William. Unit 4, Case Study 4 Skin Cancer

I have researched many different Web-cites and articles to try and determine what role genetics plays in skin cancer. Yes there are certain genetic mutations that are inherited, or passed through the germ-line, but the main cause of skin cancer is UV radiation which is an environmental genetic defect. Many cancers begin when one or more genes in a cell are mutated, creating an abnormal protein or no protein at all. The information provided by an abnormal protein is different from that of a normal protein, which can cause cells to multiply uncontrollably and become cancerous.CDKN2A- mutations in this regulator of cell division are the most common causes of inherited melanoma. They are however still very uncommon overall and can appear in non-inherited cases. People who have this often have a large number of irregularly shaped moles and are often diagnosed at a relatively young age. The MC1R gene provides instructions for making a protein called the melanocortin 1 receptor. The recepto r is primarily located on the surface of melanocytes, which are specialized cells that produce a pigment called melanin. Melanin is the substance that gives skin, hair and eyes their color.Melanocytes makes two forms of melanin, Eumelanin and Pheomelanin. The amounts of these two pigments help determine the hair color and skin usually the more Eumelanin the darker the hair and skin, also will tan easily. It also protects the skin from UV radiation in the sunlight. The more Pheomelanin the hair is red or blonde, freckles, and light skin that tans poorly, because it does not protect the skin. Which puts them at risk for skin cancer. Many changes in the MC1R gene increase the risk of developing skin cancer, including a common, serious form of skin cancer that begins in melomcytes.Skin damage caused by UV radiation from the sun is a major risk factor for developing melanoma and other forms of skin cancer. These gene mutations germ-lines are passed from parent to child through the MC1R g ene but UV radiation is the highest risk factor for getting skin cancer, and the most common in the most common in skin cancers. People who are genetically susceptible to skin cancer should avoid prolong exposure to the UV radiation from sun light, wear sun screen, and enough protective clothing when outside.

Has Criminology Been Gender Blinded Essay - 2257 Words

Criminology has been ‘Gender-blind rather than ‘Gender neutral. Discuss It has been argued that the gaze of criminology has been primarily focused on male offenders, Cain (1989) argues that criminology is in fact incapable of speaking in gender neutral terms (cited in Walklate 2001: 19). A reason for this includes that history has been prepared to offer universal explanations of crime achieved by the study of the male offender. Feminists such as (Naffine 1997: 18) believe that criminology has been ‘dominated by academic men studying criminal men. A major concern for feminist writers on this subject is that for many the world is seen as a masculine one, despite facts clearly proving that it is made up of feminine and masculine†¦show more content†¦Frances Heidensohn (2002: 292) describes these studies as having grave effects on the discipline of criminology, she claims that it was cast into a scenario much like that of ‘sleeping beauty describing how criminology strove forward from the positive approach allowing integration into a number of different sociological theories of crime and deviance but the subject of feminine crime was left behind. Walklate (2004: pp28) appears to agree however notes a shift towards concepts of emotional stability and socialisation to explain criminality, the notion of the sex role socialisation could be argued as a starting point for this, in which Talcott Parsons (1937) directs attention to how children are socialised into society in accordance to their sex. One such study which seams to take this path was performed by Thomas (1907) who is quoted as saying the girl as a child does not know she as any particular value until she learns it from others (www.Kelfawebcomcepts.com/au/ecrgend1.htm) It would appear that women were becoming more apparent at this point with the work of Talcott Parsons however criticisms arose that women were not being reflected in a true form.
